Tap, Tap, Is This Thing on?

About me.

I knit, probably more than I should. I learned when I was a child but didn't really pursue it until I graduated from college. I'm a sinister or left handed knitter. I don't knit continental, I hold the yarn in my left hand and move the stitches from the right hand needle to the left. I follow patterns as written so the final product is a mirror image of what a right handed knitter would have made. According to Elizabeth Zimmerman, this is "nearly wrong", but it works for me and I have no intention of changing. I don't think I could if I wanted to; my right hand is utterly useless when knitting. All it can do is hang onto the needle for dear life while the left hand does all the work.

I'm doing this (starting a blog) because I've knit a lot of things and I have a lot of notes but no place to put them. I usually can't find them when I need them and I can't read them when I do. I hope that this will solve the problem of my illegible handwriting and post-it notes that lose their stickiness and fall out when you open the book. Perhaps I'll be more motivated to keep up with things. Tomorrow is New Year's day, a time for resolutions and new beginnings, and I have nothing on the needles so it seems like a good time to start.

The plan is to document new projects as they progress, which should be straightforward, and to add the old projects as time permits. We'll see how that goes.
